SXSW III

Now in Denver, out of the madness, in a coffee shop with an old folks bluegrass club in the corner reading thru folk and gospel classics. An up and down time in Austin. Played well at each function, but exhausting all around both in getting and being there. Here are some moments:
Man vs. Bee at the Four Seasons Hotel Pool as Metallica held interviews.Also saw Matt Pinfield in the lobby, yep still in the biz and looking svelte!

Can't describe very well, but I'll say Mary J. Blige meets deerhoof on a Kenyan vacation, but that just still doesn't quite fit. Went with Nick and Jeff and Laura, and though we were moved, literally by this set, we were also a little pissed off by their excellence.

We played with Horse Feathers twice, and here Laura Gibson has a similar experience of battling SXSW noise. God bless em for persevering, would drive me nuts trying to play quiet introspective music over this kinda hub bub and 4 competing metal bands next door

Mid afternoon zen jam with Tara Jane O'neil,

Then next day, Deertick solo. Had the pleasure of meeting jon and having dinner, after an exhausting restaurant search mind you, with he and old pal Tim Putnam and Yoni. He says he was sick, sounded great to me. wish I had recorded the Warren Zevon cover as well though

Rafter had a great set here as well at the ongoing Todd P weekend extravaganza. Things spiraled a little for me here, and I missed my friend Angel's set because of an ill advised B double E double R U N. It only got worse from there for me,lost my phone only to have it given back by a kindly stranger, but I recovered, and got out alive.....
Oh, on said drunken beer run saw another MTV oldie John Norris with a posse that included one of the worst SX performers that we caught the night before only because the place was empty and we were hoping to sit and eat, but ultimately could not handle the atmosphere. JN not wearing his signature NKOTB shirt though, guess he's moved on.

SXSW II

Whoa that was a long one, seemed to be walking ALL DAY. Severe calf cramping received in the Four Seasons Hotel pool the night before is reeking havoc on me today. Hung with Tim P. The Fader fort has grown over the years into the grossest behemoth of grossness, and a little festival of it's own. But the beer and whiskey is free, but is it worth it?...No.
Played at 1am which seemed a lot later than that. Earlier caught Dirty Projectors, thanks Ingrid! and it really was sick, but the New York Times can tell you about that. Well, gotta leave this sweet Suite, and head off into another day. Will post video soon.

SXSW

Took more than we planned to get here. got here close to 7am!? After 3hrs of sleep max, regrouped and surprisingly played pretty well w/out practice and Nick being in India, not playing guitar, and being in worldwide transit for 36hrs. Got my coffee mug back! Walked in a daze w/ Jordan and Paul. Sorry guys we'll party tomorrow. Killed it at the Four Seasons poolside Jay Z style. Out of my mind need to sleep. More when I feel human......Probs watch madness tomorrow before delving into the indie hipster madness, and I mean that in the most endearing way.........Thanks Pops!
